How hose ventilation improves the barn climate
More than just temperature
Optimum barn ventilation with hose systems reduces heat stress, improves air quality and thus contributes to better cow health and performance. Investing in efficient ventilation not only ensures the right temperature, but also optimized humidity and pollutant load parameters. An important interplay for satisfied animals, stable milk yields and economic success.
Why is the right temperature so important for cows?
Dairy cows are adapted to cooler temperatures and generally feel most comfortable at a temperature between -5 and +15 °C. If the temperature rises above this, heat stress can occur, which has a negative effect on feed intake, milk yield and fertility. It becomes particularly dangerous when humidity is high, as heat dissipation is made more difficult by evaporation.
Humidity and its influence on the barn climate
Humidity plays a decisive role in the cow’s heat balance. At high humidity levels, the body can release less heat through breathing and sweating. Temperatures above 25 °C in combination with more than 70 % humidity are particularly dangerous – here the risk of heat stress increases dramatically. Good air circulation is therefore also important to prevent heat build-up!
Air quality: don’t underestimate germs & gases
In addition to temperature and humidity, airborne germs and barn gases also influence the well-being of cows. High ammonia and CO₂ concentrations can irritate the respiratory tract and increase susceptibility to illness. Poor air quality often leads to susceptibility to health problems, respiratory diseases and reduced feed intake.
A targeted hose ventilation system such as CAT3000® from Dr. Knopf & Oswald ensures a controlled, fresh air supply – regardless of weather conditions.
🔹 Targeted fresh air flow: air is directed straight into the lying area where it is needed.
🔹 Constant air circulation: Prevents heat build-up and prevents moisture in the bedding.
🔹 Reduction of germs & stable gases: Pollutants are continuously removed, which is gentle on the cows’ respiratory tracts.
🔹 Individual adaptation: The ventilation is adapted precisely to the size of the barn and the number of animals.
